Description

We are seeking a highly skilled SQL Database Specialist to take ownership of a legacy SQL Server system, ensuring its stability, optimization, and documentation. This role requires strong analytical skills, the ability to reverse-engineer complex stored procedures, and a proactive approach to system improvement. You will work closely with the current system expert to ensure a smooth transition to a new platform while maintaining critical database functionality.

Requirements

Main requirements:

• 4+ years of experience
• Strong experience with SQL Server and complex stored procedures.
• Ability to reverse-engineer and document undocumented database systems.
• Proven track record of maintaining and improving legacy database systems.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Strong documentation skills and the ability to create clear technical records.
• Ability to balance system maintenance with innovation.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with cloud-based data platforms.
• Familiarity with modern data engineering practices.
• Background in system optimization and performance tuning.
• Knowledge of data governance and quality assurance.
• Experience supporting database systems during transition periods.

Job responsibilities

Main responsibilities:

• Rapidly understand and document existing SQL Server stored procedures and processes.
• Maintain, optimize, and enhance the legacy database system to ensure stability and performance.
• Identify and implement system improvements while balancing maintenance tasks.
• Create comprehensive technical documentation using modern documentation methods.
• Analyze complex stored procedures to extract and define business rules and logic.
• Support the transition period to a new platform while ensuring business continuity.
• Provide expert insights and recommendations to inform the new platform’s development.
