Description

6+ years of experience in FinOps on Cloud Environments with a focus on AWS.

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Deep understanding of AWS services (e.g., EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, EKS) and their associated pricing models.
Proficiency in AWS cost management tools:
AWS Cost Explorer and AWS Budgets for monitoring.
AWS Compute Optimizer for resource recommendations.
AWS Savings Plans and Reserved Instances for cost reduction.
Strong automation skills with scripting languages like Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
Experience with data analysis and visualization tools:
Excel for advanced data manipulation.
Visualization platforms like Tableau, Power BI, or AWS QuickSight.

Requirements

We are seeking an experienced AWS FinOps Specialist/Engineer to manage and optimize cloud financial operations across our AWS environment. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, deep expertise in AWS cost management tools. He would work closely with engineering, finance, and leadership teams to provide visibility into cloud spending and implement strategies to maximize ROI from AWS investments.

Required Skills

6+ years of experience in FinOps on Cloud Environments with a focus on AWS.

  • Deep understanding of AWS services (e.g., EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, EKS) and their associated pricing models.
  • Proficiency in AWS cost management tools:

  • AWS Compute Optimizer for resource recommendations.

AWS Certifications:

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Associate/Professional).
  • AWS Certified DevOps Engineer.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies: Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of cloud financial management methodologies and principles (e.g., Total Cost of Ownership, Chargebacks, Showbacks).
  • Familiarity with multi-cloud cost management tools like Flexera, CloudHealth, or CloudCheckr.
  • Experience integrating FinOps practices in DevOps workflows.

Other Skills

Governance and Compliance:

Ensure compliance with cloud cost policies and organizational standards.
Monitor and enforce adherence to tagging and cost allocation practices.
Performance Metrics:
Define Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of FinOps initiatives, such as cost savings achieved and resource efficiency improvements.
Forecasting and Budgeting:
Create detailed cloud cost forecasts based on historical data and growth trends.
Assist in setting and tracking budgets for cloud consumption.


Job Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities
1. Cost Optimization
Identify and implement cost-saving measures, such as:
Right-sizing EC2 instances.
Leveraging Reserved Instances, Savings Plans, and Spot Instances.
Utilizing AWS cost optimization tools (e.g., AWS Cost Explorer, AWS Compute Optimizer).
Develop and implement strategies to optimize resource utilization, reduce idle resources, and minimize waste.
Conduct regular cost audits and recommend actionable changes to reduce expenses.
Collaborate with stakeholders to align cloud spend with business goals and priorities.
2. FinOps Framework Implementation
Establish a comprehensive FinOps framework, incorporating:
Governance policies for cost management and resource accountability.
Processes for managing budgets, forecasts, and chargebacks.
Tools and reporting mechanisms to provide visibility into cloud expenditures.
Define and enforce tagging policies to ensure accurate cost allocation.
Create documentation and training materials to promote FinOps best practices across teams.
3. Automation & Tooling
Automate key cost management processes, including:
Resource tagging and cost allocation.
Alerting for budget breaches or spending anomalies.
Report generation and distribution.
Design, develop, and maintain dashboards for insights into cloud spending trends, utilizing:
AWS services like AWS Budgets, AWS Cost and Usage Reports (CUR), and QuickSight.
Third-party FinOps tools (e.g., CloudHealth, CloudCheckr, Apptio Cloudability).
Utilize Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or AWS CloudFormation for provisioning cost-efficient architectures.
4. Stakeholder Collaboration
Act as a liaison between technical teams and finance departments to ensure alignment of cost management objectives.
Provide regular updates and recommendations to leadership on cloud spending and potential savings.
Conduct workshops and knowledge-sharing sessions to educate teams on FinOps principles.
