Hybrid
This role is an integral part of our R&D team and focuses on the development of a Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) simulator, designed to simulate EtherCAT-connected devices and sensors. This simulator will be crucial in validating and optimizing our robotic system before deployment and during the Validation process. Responsibilities include working on development projects, analyzing and monitoring data trends, creating test methods and setups, updating documentation as needed, and providing support for production, quality control, and regulatory initiatives as instructed. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in modern C++ and Python, real-time systems, and robotic simulation. Additionally, experience in system identification of complex dynamic systems is highly desirable, as the developed HIL simulator must be qualified against the real robot.
● Master’s Degree in an engineering discipline
● Programming Languages: Proficiency in modern C++ (C++17 preferred) and C.
● Scripting: Strong experience with Python, JSON, and Bash.
● Middleware and Communication Protocols: Experience with ROS (Robot Operating
System), DDS (Data Distribution Service), and EtherCAT.
● HIL Simulation: Proven track record of developing HIL simulators for complex robotic or
automation systems.
● Control Systems & Dynamics: Understanding of rigid body dynamics and real-time
simulation techniques.
● Software Engineering Best Practices: Strong grasp of software development methodologies,
version control (Git), and CI/CD pipelines (cmake, conan)
● Autonomy: Ability to work independently in software analysis, design, implementation,
and testing, and also present recommendations based upon findings
● Effective verbal, written communication and organizational skills
● Design, develop, and maintain a HIL simulator to replicate EtherCAT-connected devices and
sensors.
● Simulate BLDC motors, encoders, force and torque sensors, infrared sensors, and RFID
readers.
● Incorporate rigid body dynamics of the robot into the HIL model for realistic behavior.
● Ensure real-time performance and synchronization of the HIL simulation with the physical
system.
● Validate the HIL simulator against real hardware through system identification and
comparative analysis.
● Work with the V&V team to integrate the HIL simulator into the V&V process.
● Analyze, design, implement, and test software components with minimal supervision, write
test procedures and associated reports
● Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical, electrical, and software engineers.
● Develop and maintain scripts to automate testing and validation.
● Troubleshoot and optimize software for performance and reliability.
● Provides software support for development and testing efforts focused on optimization
and maintenance of current software architectures. This role will involve integration of
software as part of the design and development of a surgical robot.
● Follow the software development process and medical device regulatory guidelines
(standards such as IEC 62304, IEC 60601)
● Support software team in complaint analysis and resolution
● All other duties as directed.
